I get a lot of mileage out of this song, since our government is what it is these days.

As we're rolling into another one of these, I went ahead and updated the lyrics for our current Fiscal Year 2023 conditions, and played/programmed a whole new roadhouse blues-style recording!

It's tough to keep my projects moving
with budgets tied up in politicians' proving
which of their sides has the gods' approval

been plugging on with the people's business
whiteboarding charts, writing empty missives
but the shutdown's coming, resistance it is futile

I'm a pawn in the game of legislative conceits
of back room deals and late night tweets
I just pack things up and start planning to be frugal

I review the guidance set the out-of-office
try not to be too sarcastic in my auto-responses
that'd be unprofessional, but fantasy can be fun

Back home I put off household projects
organize accounts to absorb the lapse's affects
plan to ride this out until the race is finally run

it's sad to say I'm used to this
this is far from my first shift
a public servant's work is never done
